I just want to tell you that was not fun for me. Captain maddie’s, halyard tip of the week, and you can take that to the bank. What’s up guys, welcome back to sailing gbu? If you’re new here, we have been anchored out in salinas for hurricane season and you might be asking yourself: why are we anchored in puerto rico for hurricane season? Isn’t that hurricane alley.

Yes, it is hurricane alley but covet had some different plans this year. Obviously traveling’s kind of shut down. We wanted to go, do like the leeward islands, so we could just kind of sail around and if there was a hurricane, just shoot like 100 miles, one way or the other.

But that was closed, so it got really crowded down there and we decided hey. You know what we’re americans. I’ve, always heard great things about puerto rico. They got walmart’s, they got popeyes chicken, let’s, let’s.

Just spend hurricane season there and let’s, see if it’s doable, let’s, see if it’s manageable. Obviously it’s. A lot of work. We’ve, been dodging storms this whole time and it ain’t been fun. I’ll. Tell you that it ain’t been fun, so our plan is why we’re here for hurricane season is to get as many projects done as possible, because when you’re traveling sailing projects, come you just want to Do little ones at a time, but now that we’re stuck here, we’re gonna knock them all out.

So i’m excited about our first project. Got ta, get the floors. Finally done. We’re sailing good bad and ugly. Three years ago we bought our boat off craigslist for five thousand dollars. I’m kristin and this is matt.

We are known to break the rules and do things a little less [, Music ]. Traditional hit subscribe to join the adventure, thanks to our patrons for keeping us going [, Music, ] all right. So first things.

First, we got to start ripping up our old poo poo floor yup, like that one song in the 80s said you got ta rip it up rip it up. Oh, i don’t. Remember that song rip it up there wasn’t. It everybody remember: he’s just born in the 80s.

It’s, a song rip it up. We’ll, probably drop the lincoln below. For that youtube video. It was probably def leppard, or something like that. If you know who’s, saying let’s, get terrific of the floor.

All right: [, Music, ], [ Applause, ], [, Music, ], [ Applause, ], [, Music ], looks upset about her old floor being gone. Bear you mad don’t. Worry! You’ll, like the new floor. Bear where it up baby [ Music ] do [ Music ].

We ended up getting the lifeproof flooring, it’s, scratch proof waterproof, not just water resistant. So hopefully this is going to be good for us and the color we chose was dusk cherry. If you happen to be interested, i’m, pretty sure i’ll link it down below.

If you want to look at them, but they do have more colors, they have a lot of different colors from weathered dark, grays all different colors, but in store they have limited amounts and then, depending on where you are, we’re in puerto rico.

We couldn’t get certain ones shipped out, but this is what we’re gonna try to use. I think it’s. Gon na give us a good, modern coastal vibe in here, and then after i redo the cushions, i might do some painting it’s, going to give this whole place a whole makeover.

You can do it with pretty simple tools. You can score it with either a box cutter or just any kind of pocket knife, and you can snap it and then sand it, and it comes out pretty well. I’m, going to be using a saw for most of my cuts.

This saw was given to us ordered off of our wish list by one of our subscribers. I know a lot of people don’t, like their name said over the internet, so you know who you are out there. We. Thank you very much.

We appreciate you and uh, you know all the love you guys show makes things like this go a lot easier for us. So here is my handy dandy, jigsaw. Obviously, a tape measure i’m using a dry erase marker and then also to kind of butt it in there.

You use like a sacrificial piece that you cut off and your rubber mallet to beat it on in there all right so guys. I lined up my floor in one strip. I know usually on a floor. I’ve done some floors in the past.

You start in the middle and work out, so everything’s even but because i have a bilge door. There is a this is practically three different floors, so more or less, i have to start from the bilge door, which has to be detachable and then fit it in with the pattern of these planks.

Just so it doesn’t, come out completely hideous. It’s, complicated it’s a little it’s a little complicated. I’m, not going to get overly technical, because i’m far from uh and everybody’s. Boat’s, different yeah everybody’s.

Maybe you’ve got a big old sprawling boat and you can just put the whole thing down normal, but i think what’s going to work for me? Is i’m going to lay in my pattern then? I’m, going to glue down my main strip the one main strip that i’m, going to work off of it’s, the longest length of uncut planks that i could work with that.

I could find in this boat, so i put that as my middle line and then for my hatch. I think i’m just going to overshoot it with the planks and trim the tongue and the groove out, so that i can pull the door in and out.

As we all know in this channel, i have to get to my build beers. In case the bilge pump ever takes a dump, i’ll have to fix that as well, but the beers are more important and that’s. What i’m, going to have to be able to get to so laid out.

My pattern make sure that all my planks were different and i’m, pretty happy with it, and the floor is gonna go in. So we’ll, see how it all comes out all right guys. So we pretty much finished up the floor.

There’s still some ends. We got to tie up, we’re gluing, it down still, and we might add a little bit of quarter round on the edges, because it didn’t fit fully to the sides, but that’s besides the boy it Changed the whole look inside of our boat, it looks ten times wider.

I’m, really excited about it and it’s. Just gonna make our life so much easier. So let’s, move on to what we got next, alright guys. So you may not know this about me, but i hate horrible, ugly, ropes right here on this boat.

Obviously you know we started from the bottom, so we had all mismatched, franken, ropes, terrible, ugly, bright, green disgusting, so my boy anthony over at onboard rigging, he’s, a keys guy. He’s, a florida boy.

He sent me some ropes. We worked together and i said man can. I make these ropes work a little bit better, because my life is on the line here and i can’t, keep risking it with these old shoddy ropes.

So he hooked me up with some beautiful, like nice, smooth, pretty colored ropes, that’s. Gon na really, i think, make the boat look a lot better and he did these awesome splices so that i don ‘ T have to just tie knots at the end that always break, and i’m, not much of a not guy, but he made it all.

Look so beautiful and i’m excited to get this on the boat. Kristen makes fun of me: she doesn’t care about ropes. She says she never even notices she’s, more of a flooring and pillows kind of girl. I’m, more of a ropes and rigging kind of guy, so this is my new ropes and i’m, pretty excited about it: [, Music, ], [, Music, ], [, Music, ], okay, guys so now that i have the main sheet Replaced i’m, going to be replacing the main halyard now.

My main halyard runs in mast, as do most that i’ve seen so what i’m going to do is, instead of taking them out and trying to feed it through the mast. I’m, going to attach these with some old fishing wire and a little bit of duct tape and then, ideally, what i’m thinking is i’ll, be able to just pull this one and feed my nice snazzy New blue rope all the way through, so what i’m gonna have to do is attach the two bitter ends, or maybe one end is a bitter end and one ends a working end.

If you know what the ends are called, please let me know in the comments below but yeah fishing wire, duct tape and a feed through let’s, see how it goes: [, Music, ], so [, Music, ], all right! So now, as you can see, i got blue rope in both hands and that’s.

Captain maddie’s, halyard tip of the week, and you can take that to the bank [ Music ]. Now that i have my main halyard installed, i’m, going to be towing myself up mass well, rightfully kristen’s, going to be telling me up the mat so pray for me, guys um.

She’s, going to be taking me up there, and i got this new boson chair shout out chris myers homie from the youtube channel bought this for me, appreciate it also about this tool belt that i’m, going to modify this Boson chair this thing was about 60 bucks.

My tool belt was like 12 bucks, or something like that. So we’re coming in just under 75 dollars, and i’m going to convert this 75 dollar boson chair into an upwards of 200 dollar bosom chair by modifying these pouches and sewing them so that i can take my tools up With me, and i can remain hands-free, you can’t cut every corner and sailing.

Unfortunately, believe me, i’ve tried. Eventually you got to get up off that pocketbook, but i think that there’s. Some ways that you can save that money – you know you’re, not going to be in a boston chair very much unless you’re, a professional rigger.

So for the standard cruiser you’re, going to use this once or twice a year. Probably hopefully so you don’t need a 300 one, that’s, where you can knock a couple hundred dollars off and spend it at the bar, spend it on a better anchor something crazy, and this next thing came very highly recommended From you guys, i’m, going to use my speedy stitcher to stitch this to this.

So i’m gonna do that now. What are you gonna do? Kristen i’m gonna go, make some sandwiches. That’s right. She’s. Gon na go, make them sammies ugh, you’re, not getting a sandwich. Now! Oh yeah, i am you, can watch me, eat mine and lick my lips [ Music ].

So these are my pouches that i sewed on here with my speed, stitch otherwise known as a prison shift, so yeah that’s on there and then, basically now they go like this. I got my back, strap and yeah. This hooks up.

This links up and then i go up and i’ll – be able to have my tools, my tools, [ Applause ]. Are you doing? I think we got to go use it. So i don ‘ T see the point of you trying it out, take this little guy up there, you know [ Music, ], all right guys.

That was really hard and it was exhausting. We had to put matt up the mask because he let his rope go all the way up. There, and so we had to do it, and i just want to tell you that was not fun for me, that was like a full-blown workout.

Like my delts, i think that’s. What these bad boys are called are burning. They’re burning and i’m sweating and i’m tired, but i just wanted to say on those clips of the speedy stitcher. Mad didn’t know what he was doing with it and he’s been trying to do it.

For a long time now – and i looked at him – and i said that can’t be right and i looked it up a video and in 10 seconds i taught him how to really use it. So don’t really look at those clips. Why don’t you give them a flex, since it took you three hours to run me at the mast, all right guys it’s the next day.

We finish up all our projects. For now we got a few storms coming our way, and now we need to decide what we’re gonna do. It seems like there’s like three rolling in. Hopefully they some of them just disappear, if not all of them just disappear.

In the dust which i don’t think is gonna happen, but if these are coming, they look pretty bad and we’re gonna have to up our hurricane prep situation so that’ll, be coming in the Future, probably, and for now we’re, just gonna sit tight yeah the projection is definitely looking not great.

It’s still like 10 days out, which i know it’s not going to be right, but hopefully only one of those actually materializes. So we can get on with our boat project. So we can get the heck up out of here.

Love salinas, love, puerto rico, but you know it’s all about those distant shorts. It’s all about those wandering eyes. The problem is it’s hard to jump into these projects, because we have some major ones coming up like major system upgrades things that you don’t want to.

I’m, not fixing a stove. I’m, not like duct taping, two things together. These are things that take time. Those are serious projects. Those were serious projects. These are things they’re gonna take a little more time, a little more technical detail, and obviously you know me i just like to jimmy rig it.

So this way i have to take my time and really think about things which that’s, not necessarily been my strong suit, thus far in life, but with the storms. It keeps interrupting us. I feel, like girl, interrupted, remember that movie.

No me neither, but there was a movie called girl interrupted, so you feel like a girl that’s being interrupted. I feel, like i’m being a girl that’s being interrupted. I don’t know where he’s going with this guy.

I’m just blabbing but anyway, so i’m uh, trying to do that, trying to dodge the storms and trying to get this boat ship shape, but speaking of projects we got it done. We got the floor done, but i got ta.

Ask you guys a quick question, a quick? What is it spit it out? Quick? What is this? What’s that opinion we might paint the wall? The floor looks really good, but it’s kind of clashing with some of the different browns.

So i’m going to show you the wall and i want you guys if any painters out there any pantoras. Let me know what would be a good color to go with the color scheme, because we got great cushions. I’m thinking white to bring more white in the house.

Maybe make this these? What would you call this? Like a ship black type of wall white, but then i’m afraid. If i paint that white that then i’m gonna be like well now. This is too dark. Now i got ta paint this way and then the whole house it needs to be painted by and that’s, an undertaking that i’m, really not looking forward for so.

Maybe it’s, fine, the way it is, but maybe just maybe adding this wall white, maybe a little decoration i don’t know. What do you guys think so that’s? What’s, going to maybe work for the color schemes? I don’t know if it’s going to be like.

I was thinking a nice lavender, a nice purple to kind of put us at ease. She said. No, so then i was like cream and she said no. She’s, not green hot green. She said no can’t do that. So i don’t know what’s going to work.

Let me know if you guys, if we got any interior decorators out there, let us know which way it’s going to go, but i’m sure she’s, got her own ideas in this old noggin there. Alright guys make sure you like this video hit subscribe.

If you haven’t already, and we’ll see you next week, shout out to our patreon. What’s up shut up boys, [, Music ], you
